Phuket’s thriving nightlife is one of the main attractions of the island, and caters for all tastes. The epicentre is Patong Beach, with Bangla Road being the main strip, where there are a bewildering number of arcades of tiny bars packed right next to one another. These arcades are given names such as Soi Eric, Soi Tiger and Soi Crocodile. On the other side of the road is a string of open-fronted bars, and there are a number of British and Irish pubs here and along Beach Road. Along Bangla are several large discos, and there is a gay district at Soi Paradise. Kata and Karon both have some lively bars but their entertainment areas are far smaller and less raucous and these towns have an altogether more family feel to them. Rawai, on the southern tip of the island, is a sleepy beach town during the day but has a large number of small bars lining the seafront that come alive during the evening, and which are more of an attraction for Thai visitors than for those from overseas. The nightlife in Phuket City is predominantly made up of Thai style nightclubs scattered throughout the maze of one-way streets, and which feature live bands playing a mix of western pop and contemporary Thai music. Karaoke lounges are to be found everywhere, the larger ones featuring hostess service and with restaurants attached. Phuket FantaSea
